How the Class 7 knowledge test works
In Alberta every new driver goes through the Graduated Driver Licensing program. The first stage is the Class 7 learner's licence.
To get a Class 7 learner's licence you must be at least 14 years old, have a parent's or guardian's consent if you are under 18, pass the knowledge test and pass a vision test.
Start by studying the official Driver's Guide for cars and light trucks. The test questions come from this guide and cover safe driving practices, driving laws and road signs.
You take the test on a computer at a registry agent office, and every question is multiple choice. You pay a fee each time you take the test, and you can take it only once per day.
The registry agent also checks your vision. Once you have passed both the knowledge test and the vision test, you can buy your Class 7 learner's licence card.
After you pass, bring the knowledge test permit you bought for the test to a registry agent so that your driver's licence record is updated.
You are given a temporary licence that is valid for 30 days or until your licence card arrives in the mail.
