Road signs and the Alberta knowledge test
The Class 7 test asks about safe driving practices, driving laws and road signs. Road signs are mixed in with the other questions: the official pages describe no separate sign section, no minimum sign score and no number of sign questions.
Speed limit signs are in kilometres per hour (km/h). Unless a sign says otherwise, the maximum speed on a road in an urban area is 50 km/h, though a municipality can set a different limit by bylaw. School and playground zones are 30 km/h when in effect.
The government publishes the Driver's Guide in English and French only. Community groups sell translations, including Chinese, through private retailers; a retailer list updated in 2019 names them. The government says it does not publish these translations and is not responsible for their accuracy.
