Languages for the Alberta Class 7 knowledge test

The Class 7 knowledge test is available in 25 languages: Amharic, Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Cree, Dutch, English, Farsi, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Oromo, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese.

The Chinese test comes in two written forms, Simplified and Traditional. No official page mentions a Cantonese or Mandarin audio version.

Class 7 also has a narrated version that you listen to with headphones. The official pages do not say which languages the narration is available in. Some registry offices may charge a fee for disposable headphones. All oral tests, including the Class 7 oral test, are given in English only.

A translator is allowed only after you have tried the test at least three times with the available options, or at your first test if your language is not on the computer system. The translator must hold a valid Translation Identification Number (TIN) issued by Examinations and Licensing. A professional sign language interpreter is allowed if you have hearing loss, and a paper English conversion dictionary is allowed for the Class 7 test.

The government publishes the Driver's Guide in English and French. Community groups have translated it into other languages, but those versions are not Government of Alberta publications and the government is not responsible for their accuracy.

The test-language page names the Arabic version "Arabic (Modern Standard)", while the Spring 2026 Driver's Guide writes just "Arabic". A 2017 government bulletin says the test has no time limit; the current test page does not say.
